Our Curriculum

IMG_1242.jpg

Our curriculum emerges from the interests, ideas, and needs of children. It depends on a partnership of learning among teachers, children, and families. We work with each child’s natural curiosity to learn about the world by providing an environment that is appropriately stimulating. We provide plenty of time for uninterrupted play.  Participation in free play is how children develop social, cognitive, motor, and emotional skills necessary to function within a community. Children learn about the world around them through creating, expressing, and interpreting their experiences.  Children are active participants in all care activities from eating and dressing to diapering. Consistency and clearly defined limits and expectations are staples of a quality early childhood program. Our teachers are knowledgeable about children’s natural developmental sequence and each new skill a child learns is appreciated on its own, without rushing to anticipation of the next logical set of skills. This is so that children learn to appreciate the skills they acquire and come into new skills in their own time. The environment is prepared to accommodate children as they move through their development.

School Environment

We strive to convey a message of warmth and a home-like feeling to students and parents who enter our school.  We have an open door policy and welcome families to be involved in any way possible. The school is a community built by the children, families and teachers that inhabit it. We encourage families to develop a sense of ownership through active participation and communication. This type of home-school relationship strengthens family and cultural identity by providing relevant connections between school and the child’s family and culture. The relationship begins from the family’s first communication with the school. Healthy communication between the director, teachers, the child, and the family maintains progress, especially during times of transition into the program, from one class to the next, and out of the program. Some examples of communication that Imagine participates in besides everyday conversations are postings on the bulletin board, notes home, newsletters, phone calls, and conferences. Our classrooms and outdoor areas encourage investigation, social interaction and are flexible to respond to the demands of active learners. We offer a safe, developmentally appropriate, and healthy environment for children to thrive. Our low child-to-caregiver ratios encourage bonding and provide continuity of care.
